The timing of PKK's attack - HÜSEYIN LIKOĞLU

The timing of PKK's attack

The terrorist organization PKK is a product of September 12th. In the period when the military prepared the platform for the coup d'état, PKK started growing up. It's not my intention to talk about PKK's history. The PKK, who is essentially fighting for the Kurds' rights, was nowhere to be found when the coupists trampled on all the human rights from 1980 to 1984. Then, when did PKK conduct its first attack. It started when the most reformist Prime Minister in the history of Republic of Turkey, Turgut Özal came into power. It started with Eruh and Şemdinli on August 15, 1984.

Despite the short-term cutbacks, the bloodshed, which started on that day, continued until the capture/trial of Abdullah Öcalan. In the period, when Öcalan was put on trial and sent to Imralı Island, the DSP-MHP-ANAP coalition government was in power. In that period, Öcalan declared a one-sided ceasefire and made the decision to retreat from Turkey. On January 12, 2000, coalition partners, Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit and his deputies, Devlet Bahçeli and Mesut Yılmaz, also made the decision that in the case terror continues, Öcalan's execution would not be postponed. This ceasefire continued until the first year of the rulership.

When we look at the dates the PKK ended their ceasefire, we encounter two quite interesting points. The PKK conducts its activities in the period, when Turkey grows too strong or the instability in the country makes itself felt. After a 5-year-long ceasefire process, on June 1, 2004, the PKK announced that they will be taking up arms again.

During the EU Adaptability Process, between years 2002 and 2004, 8 Harmonization Packages were issued. After December 17, 2004, negotiations with the EU began.

Here, the following are the legal regulations and steps taken within the frame of adapting to the EU and democratization in 2004, when PKK ended the ceasefire;

-State Security Courts (SSC) were shut down.

-Execution was removed.

-Private televisions were allowed to broadcast in Kurdish.

-It became harder to shut down political parties.

-Freedom of expression was expanded.

-Freedom of organization was reinforced.

-Custody duration was shortened.

-The punishment for crimes against the government and governmental institutions had been reduced.

-During the EU adaptation process, many development plans like the Eastern Anatolia Development Program and GAP Regional Development Program were prepared.

It's necessary to remind that the junta within the military made coup preparations, like Ergenekon, Balyoz and etc. in this period, when AK Party carried out democratization reforms.

PKK started to attack once again in a critical moment, in the period when the AK Party government was forming a healthy rulership in the country. It's unnecessary to explain the happenings. Whenever Turkey gains power or goes through a problematic process, PKK does their part. Who broke the last ceasefire? If you look at the political uncertainty following June 7th, it will be easy to see who broke the ceasefire.

They will never change

Temel's atheist Chemistry teacher had given the following example to defend his own thesis and to explain that there is no life after death; “Temel, you will die. They will bury you. Grass will grow on your grave. Cows will come and eat it. You will become cow dung. I will come next to the dung and say, “Oh Temel, what happened to you”.” Of course, Temel turns sour; “Master, when you die, you will be buried too. You will have grass on your grave too. A cow will come and eat the grass, and you too will become cow dung. I will come and tell you “Master, you haven't changed at all”. There was a flood in Hopa. Eight citizens lost their lives. TMMOB announced the cause of the flood as HES's. I've fell for this lie, and called the Director of the Samsun Provincial Disaster and Emergency Case, Erkan Koparmal. I've asked Erkan Koparmal, whom I've become friends with during the time I was assigned in Samsun and who also worked in Artvin as a Geological Engineer. He replied; “There is no HES in Hopa.” I asked, “How come?” He said, “However, TMMOB states so. As far as I'm concerned, there are none. However, let me confirm it anyway.” My phone rang; it was Mr. Erkan. “I've asked some people, and there is no HES or a project of HES in Hopa,” he said.

TMMOB, also known as Chamber of Architects, didn't surprise us at all. The Chamber of Architects, who wanted the construction of the Boğaziçi Bridge in 1968 while claiming that it looks like the Pharoah Pyramid, didn't change at all since then. Is it hard to believe that the Chamber of Architects, who calculated the cost of the Presidency Complex over a photo, caused a disaster in Hopa over the non-existing HES's?
