The responsibility of Muslims

Let us ask the Quran, which was sent by God, not be recited unto the soil of the dead, but to guide our lives.

What should we do to eliminate the cruelty of tyrants and win the war on the true path?

“And obey God and His Messenger, and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart; and be patient. Indeed, God is with the patient.” (Al-Anfal: 46)

“And prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war by which you may terrify the enemy of God and your enemy and others besides them whom you do not know [but] whom God knows. And whatever you spend in the cause of God will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.” (Al-Anfal: 60)

“And hold firmly to the rope of God all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of God upon you – when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does God make clear to you His verses that you may be guided.” (Ali 'Imran: 103)

The rope of God alludes to the Quran and Islam. The Prophet Muhammad defined the Quran as “the rope of God swinging from the sky to the earth.” (Ahmad b. Hanbal, al-Musnad, volume 3, pages 14, 17)

The conditions of victory in these verses are listed as patience and stability in action, continuously remembering and never forgetting God, obeying God and His messenger, e.g., obeying managers, commanders and the law, protecting unity and solidarity, having a deterrent power against the enemy and being prepared to the extent the success requires.

What should we do in case of a disagreement and conflict between our religious fellows?

“And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of God. And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, God loves those who act justly. … The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear God that you may receive mercy. (Al-Hujurat: 9-10)

Believers are both responsible for all humanity and their religious fellows; they are obliged to prevent injustice (Ali 'Imran: 108) and contribute to the practice of basic rights and liberties, especially freedom of thought and faith (An-Nisa: 75, Al-Haj: 40). In addition, they are responsible for solving disagreements between believers with justice and siding with the rightful against those who insist on injustice at home.

If we are given power, what is our responsibility to all humankind?

“[They are] those who have been evicted from their homes without right – only because they say, 'Our Lord is God.' And were it not that God checks the people, some by means of others, there would have been demolished monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques in which the name of God is much mentioned. And God will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, God is Powerful and exalted in might. … [And they are] those who, if we give them authority in the land, establish prayer and give zakat [alms] and enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong. And to God belongs the outcome of [all] matters.” (Al-Haj: 40-41)

“And what is [the matter] with you that you fight not in the cause of God and [for] the oppressed among men, women, and children who say, 'Our Lord, take us out of this city of oppressive people and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a helper?' … Those who believe fight in the cause of God, and those who disbelieve fight in the cause of taghut. So fight against the allies of Satan. Indeed, the plot of Satan has ever been weak.” (An-Nisa 75-76)
