Canada will provide $62.5 million in aid for Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Jordan, the Canadian International Development Ministry announced on Friday. In a statement, Canadian International Development Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau said up to $50 million will be provided for over two years for Palestinian refugees through the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The announcement comes after the U.S. State Department stated in September that Washington would “no longer commit funding” to UNRWA. The U.S. had been UNRWA's largest contributor by far, providing it with $350 million annually -- roughly one-quarter of the agency's overall budget. Established in 1949, UNRWA provides critical aid to Palestinian refugees in the blockaded Gaza Strip, the Israeli-occupied West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.More trucks laden with Qatari fuel enter blockaded GazaIn September, the foreign ministers of Jordan, Sweden, Turkey, Japan, and Germany, as well as the EU foreign policy chief, held a ministerial meeting in New York in order to mobilize financial and political support for the agency.Canada will also provide up to $12.5 million for Right to Play International, a Toronto-based education organization for children in need, according to the statement.Around $40 million of Canada's funding “will contribute to meeting the basic education, health and livelihood needs of millions of Palestinian refugees, especially women and children,” the statement added. “Furthermore, up to $10 million of Canada’s support will provide emergency life-saving assistance to more than 460,000 Palestinian refugees in Syria and Lebanon, through UNRWA’s Emergency Appeal for the Syria regional crisis,” the statement said. “This support will help to send hundreds of thousands of children to school, train teachers and support over a hundred health clinics,” the statement quoted Bibeau. “This new funding to UNRWA is urgently needed, and it will bring some predictability to the agency as the needs on the ground are increasing,” she added.Fed's Bullard hopes for more trade deals like NAFTA 2.0 to reduce uncertaintyPalestinian man dies in Israeli jail

The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) has reiterated its objection to dealing with the UN special envoy for Middle East peace, saying he has “gone beyond his role” in seeking agreements between Israel and Hamas.Ahmad Majdalani, a member of the PLO’s executive committee, told Anadolu Agency Friday that Nickolay Mladenov has overstepped his role through his attempts to mediate between the Palestinian movement and Tel Aviv.Majdalani confirmed that no Palestinian official had met with Mladenov recently, stressing it will not happen in the future as well.On Thursday, Palestinian local media outlets reported remarks by Majdalani in which he said that UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has been informed that Mladenov is “no longer acceptable to the Palestinian Authority”.But the UN denied late Friday that it had been officially informed of the decision by the Palestinian Authority.Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq said late Friday during a press conference in New York that Guterres fully supports Mladenov.“The UN Secretary General fully supports the efforts of special coordinator Mladenov, who has been working tirelessly with all concerned parties...to change the dynamic in Gaza," Haq told reporters. In July, the Israeli daily Haaretz reported that Mladenov met with representatives of the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip following his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Education Minister Naftali Bennett.Mladenov later announced in a series of posts on Twitter that “constructive” meetings had been held in Israel, Egypt, Gaza and Ramallah to halt the deterioration in Gaza and “resolve humanitarian issues”.

Israel's way of wounding demonstrators in Gaza City is a reflection of their intention to commit a new massacre, the Palestinian Health Ministry said early Saturday.Speaking to Anadolu Agency, the ministry’s spokesman, Ashraf al-Qidra, said Israel was carrying out “lethal” attacks on Palestinian protestors when looking at the injuries they received.Emphasizing that the injuries were deadly and complicated, Qidra added that Israeli occupying forces had the intention to commit a new massacre. He also stressed that there was no international monitoring of the situation and called for determined and effective moves in order to stop the continuous violations against the Palestinian people.Meanwhile, Qatar's Foreign Ministry also condemned the attacks targeting peaceful protests.“Occupying Israeli forces’ dangerous military escalation is a clear violation of international agreements and laws,” it said in a written statement.198 martyred by Israel since Gaza protests beganIsrael releases former Hamas MPAccording to the Gaza Health Ministry, seven Palestinian protesters were martyred Friday by Israeli army gunfire near the Gaza-Israel buffer zone, while another 154 Palestinians were injured.Protesters demand the “right of return” to their homes and villages in historical Palestine from which they were driven in 1948 to make way for the new state of Israel. They also demand an end to Israel’s 12-year blockade of the Gaza Strip, which has gutted the coastal enclave’s economy and deprived its roughly two million inhabitants of many basic commodities.
