Archaeologists have discovered at the ancient Roman site of Herculaneum a 2000-year-old male skeleton who was probably trying to flee the eruption of Mount Vesuvius as his flesh disintegrated in the heat. “It’s helped enormously to understand both the last moments of the site, but also the 100 years running up to it,” said Professor Andrew Wallace-Hadrill of Cambridge University.
