Turkish female artist makes wooden toys for children to keep tradition alive
A number of traditional wooden toys, including little cars and dolls houses, which were already replaced by manufactured plastic toys, revive in the hands of small kids and their instructor in Istanbul. A Turkish female artist has devoted most of her time to make wooden toys and to teach the kids how to do them in an effort to keep alive the tradition dating back to Ottoman Empire. Sennur Ulker turned her efforts on her two kids into a profession in which she now educates many children over handmade wooden toys. Living in Eyup, one of the historic districts of Istanbul, Ulker told how people were used to travel to the district back in the Ottoman period in order to trade and buy toys for their children.
