Turkey's 17-day lockdown left beaches empty

17:33 May 01, 2021 AA

Drone footage shows empty beached in Turkey's tourism capital Antalya's district of Kas. On any given day during the high season, beaches would be filled with tourists in the province. As a public health measure to fight the virus, Turkey started a complete lockdown starting Thursday evening and lasting until May 17. The lockdown will cover the remainder of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, as well as three days of the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Since December 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic has claimed over 3.16 million lives in 192 countries and regions. Nearly 150.7 million cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries now over 87.7 million, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
