Turkey commemorates great poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy on anniversary of national anthem

Dozens of Turkish people on Tuesday visited the grave of Mehmet Akif Ersoy in Istanbul on the 98th anniversary of the Turkish national anthem. The great poet-- also was an academic and member of the parliament -- is mostly regarded in Turkey as the “National Poet', since he was the writer of the lyrics of Turkish National Anthem -- the march of independence -- which was adopted in 1921 by the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
