Tunisian PM promises to crack down on protesters
Protests that started across Tunisia in more than 10 towns against price and tax increases entered its fourth day. One person has died and more than 200 people have been arrested in widespread protests, where thousands of youngsters took to the streets, driven by anger over steep price rises resulting from austerity measures. Prime minister Youssef Chahed said on Tuesday that his government respected the people's right to protest but that recent demonstrations had descended into “acts of vandalism, looting and violence against citizens" and promised a crackdown.
