Hundreds of new refugees and migrants, many of them children, have been waiting at the Serbia border in the freezing cold weather while violent treatment has also been reported. "Save the Children" has urged the European Union to do more to help the refugees, most of whom are from Syria and Afghanistan. The non-governmental organization also noted that children are physically abused by the security forces and often attacked by the wild dogs around the border. About 7,000 people are stuck at Serbian border, according to the recent figures. Although Serbia is not part of the European Union (EU), it borders Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania, and has become a transit point for those hoping to reach western Europe.
