Rohingya refugees skeptical of latest repatriation plan
Myanmar and Bangladesh signed a deal on Nov. 24 to return hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas, but not many refugees were keen to return. The two sides say the details are being worked out and agencies have raised concerns about the forcible return of the Rohingya unless their safety can be guaranteed. Some of the 600,000 refugees who have come to Bangladesh since August 25 are not strangers to the country. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali said it was a "first step". Senior Myanmar official Myint Kyaing said it was ready to receive the Rohingya "as soon as possible".
