The Nobel prize in medicine has been awarded to a Japanese cell biologist for discoveries on how cells break down and recycle their own components. Yoshinori Ohsumi, a Japanese cell biologist, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine on Monday for his discoveries on how cells recycle their content. Despite the harsh criticism against the starvation, Ohsumi proved that fasting is healthy in many ways. During fasting, cells break down proteins and nonessential components and reuse them for energy, according to Ohsumi.
