Map hunter: How one Turkish researcher's work is helping Palestinians get their lands back
What if you had a chance to trace that ancient title deed buried in that old chest belonging to your grandfather which dates back to the Ottoman Empire? Now you can with the comprehensive study conducted on the subject by Prof. Zekeriya Kurşun and his team who compiled “A handbook of the Ottoman Palestine Place Names and Atlas (1516-1917).” Yeni Şafak spoke exclusively to Dr. Bekir Cantemir, the editor of the handbook, which has been translated into English, Turkish and Arabic. Cantemir, who is also working on a software system to digitize the process, states that the 18th and 19th century title deeds play a significant part in the work of locating Ottoman Palestianian homes.
