A lava lake was seen in the Halema'uma'u crater of Hawaii's Kilauea volcano on Monday (May 7). The video, release by the United States Geological Survey's (USGS) Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, shows bright red lava spewing in the lava lake. According to the USGS, the "agitated lake surface" is caused by "intemittent rock falls," which "are common since the lava lake level has dropped quickly and exposed the walls."
