Greek police use tear gas and large fans to disperse asylum seekers
Greek security forces protected themselves from tear gas and gas from the Greek side of Turkey-Greece border on March 12, 2020. A video by Anadolu Agency Video News (AAVN) shows Greek border guards using tear gas to disperse the asylum seekers and a large fan just a few meters away from the barbed wire fence. Thousands of asylum seekers have since gone to Turkey's Edirne province -- which borders Greece and Bulgaria -- in the hope of going to Europe. The Greek reaction to the asylum seekers has been harsh, with many battered, attacked, tear-gassed and several killed by Greek forces. Turkey, which already hosts nearly 4 million Syrian migrants, more than any other country in the world, said it cannot absorb another refugee wave.
