District mayor saves drowning diver

A mayor has inadvertently become a hero after saving the life of a drowning diver as he attended a memorial ceremony for the victims of the worst maritime disaster in Turkish history.İsmail Yıldırım, the mayor of the Kocaeli district of Karamürsel, was attending the ceremony for the March 1 Üskürdar Ferry Disaster in İzmit province when he noticed something was wrong.Wasting no time, Yıldırım, a certified diver himself, took off his shoes and jacket and dove into the water upon hearing Ertorun pleading for help as she struggled to stay afloat 10 meters away from the pier.Yıldırım then swam back to the pier with Ertorun in tow.
