The Lebanese National Library reopened to the public on December 4, but employees there are still working hard to restore ancient texts, nearly 40 years after a civil war broke out in the country. The library first opened in Lebanon's capital Beirut in 1921 but closed in 1979 due to the Lebanese civil war, which lasted until 1990. During that time, the library books were kept in storage, but they were not well preserved. Moreover, a large number of books and classic collections went missing during the war.
