Glorious multi-coloured carpet of flowers blankets Umbrian plain

The plain of Castelluccio, central Italy, rolled out a red, yellow and blue carpet for hordes of tourists this week as summer blooms erupted into color. Poppies, daisies and cornflowers have burst into flower for the "Fiorita" or natural flower show which emerges alongside the hamlet's famous lentil crop. This year the stunning display is particularly sweet as last year a vicious drought left the flowers gasping.
