The gorilla family of the zoo of Belo Horizonte does not stop growing. The primate Imbi, of the species Gorilla gorilla gorilla, had its second pup, exactly in the month in which is celebrated the Day of the Mothers. The birth, on Monday, was celebrated by veterinarians and caretakers. This is the third western lowland gorilla to be born in a zoo in Latin America.
The father of the puppies is Leon, who came to the foundation in 2013 with Lou Lou. They joined Imbi, who had been at the BH Zoo since 2011. This group grew in 2014, nearly doubling the number of gorillas. There are currently 965 gorillas under human care in the world. Of these, 10 are in Latin America: five in Mexico and five in FZB-BH.
