Duisburg Zoo shows off new baby wombat

A little wombat baby in Duisburg Zoo is not only very cute but also a small sensation. The marsupials from Australia are very shy especially when it comes to giving birth in captivity. Duisburg Zoo had to wait 40 years for the wombats to have more offspring. About half a year ago Apari took his first breath, but was far from cute, as many marsupials are at first. The newborn babies are tiny and premature. After birth, they make their way from the birth canal to the pouch where they attach themselves to the teat, and don't let go.
