Six irregular migrants were killed after their boat capsized off the western coast of Türkiye on Saturday, officials said.
Local coast guard, emergency and gendarmerie teams rushed to help the boat with over a dozen people aboard off Ayvacik district of Canakkale province.
They saved 15 irregular migrants, while search for a missing person is still continuing.
Türkiye has been a key transit point for migrants wanting to cross to Europe to start new lives.
Türkiye, which already hosts 4 million refugees – more than any country in the world – is taking new security measures both within and on borders to prevent a fresh influx of migrants.
