Arab Spring rising from the Bosporus

The form of violent action called terror is intended to be used for a specific purpose. It aims to first psychologically and then mentally terrorize what one regards as being an obstacle to actualizing what one claims to be his cause and ideology. It is more dangerous for the target audience to be exposed to a kind of abdication of reason rather than psychological depression. Even if it is against terror, it is possible that the abdication of reason produces a terrorist discourse. In other words, the abdication of reason, which reads the target, causes and methods of terror in the wrong way, indirectly reproduces the environment of terror. The terrorization of cognition and mind shadows the reality and produces a discourse that produces false facts.

After the Reina attack and the capture of the attacker, we can say that the way of reading the incident is very problematic. The fact that terror act took place in a symbolic location of Istanbul enabled all clichés to be easily voiced. Similar clichés are increasingly continuing after the assailant's arrest.

It is predicted that such a bloody act of violence affects the psychology of society and even causes authors to give emotional reactions.

The terrorization of minds is a kind of terror which usually hides in the shadow of antiterrorism. A result that terror exactly desires can occur in the guise of a right, assertive, and determined image upsetting the reality and showing it on a convex mirror in the guise of condemning terror.

The Reina massacre reveals some objective results. A clamor broke out in the name of intervention in the life style, and it was accompanied by a number of hackneyed statements that pointed at the belief in these territories as a target and questioned it. Some comments that were made in order to condemn terror and draw attention to the danger gave the following message in the subconscious: This violence is the result of a religion and a culture which does not fit the lifestyle represented by Reina. The vectorial effect of terror in the average elitist mind can only be summarized in this way.

The facts that emerged after the massacre and the capture of the suspect show how some commentators are dragged into the abdication of mind. In this sense, the antiterrorism is exposed to mental terror.

Do the identities of the slaughter and the slaughtered people in Reina show what kind of tumult this region is going through and what kind of contradictions it has?

A significant majority of the slaughtered people was foreigners, with almost all of them coming from the Middle East and Arab countries like Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Lebanon. The murderer is a Tajik citizen from Uzbekistan, a Central Asian who was trained in Afghanistan and received an assault order from Iraq. His collaborators who were found at the same house are from Iraq, Senegal, Somalia and Egypt.

On the one hand, there is a grave dilemma of life style that is cooled by life-style literature; on the other hand, there is a burst of vengeance and anger accumulated in different regions.

In fact, even if the massacre had not occurred at Reina, the picture that appeared there is like the summary of the Arab Spring.

Both those who want to read the incident as intervention in the life style and the Muslim masses, especially those with religious sensitivity, must learn a lesson from this picture.

Even today, we are yet to discuss what kind of real social problems triggered the Arab Spring, which was sacrificed to a heroism without making healthy comments in its romanticism, and what it targeted.

If we had pondered on the Arab Spring and aftermath as much as we did on the gap between life styles and standards, the violence we faced could be more easily understood.

The way of interpreting the Arab Spring as an apolitical revolution ignored the gap between these standards and wanted to convince us that people would be happier with the charm of the capitalist world – the idea which pushed them to revolt.

Here is one of the most important ignored reasons that triggered the Arab Spring: Despite living on the world's greatest underground wealth, they experience the greatest injustice in income distribution in the world.

Despite having the richest energy sources in the world, there is no real answer to the question of who is the true owner of this wealth. Is it the people living on the underground wealth or global oil trusts and the governments who keep oil wells on their behalf?

Can these not be the reasons why liberties are restricted and why social demands are prevented from being discussed as political issues in legitimate ways in the vast Middle East where governments are seized by dynasties, sectarian or secularist/ideological single-party rules and military dictatorships?

It is necessary for our minds which are accustomed to read violence, massacres and terror to be conducted in such ruthless and cold-blooded manner in the region where the deep gap between social layers is such a horrifying one, through religion, culture and life style, to abandon ideological clichés and look at different spheres. Every kind of terror can lean on an ideological or religious discourse to justify its act and draw motivational elements from it. What is important is being able to read other motives that constitute the vectorial composition. Every social incident cannot be reduced to economic reasons, but you must explain how the religion and culture that you consider to be the opium of the masses brings such motivation.
